Save Historic Harpers Ferry: Investigate Racial Bias & Stop Illegal Privacy Fences
The Issue
Local leaders are desperate for you to believe that Harpers Ferry is a “symbol of racial harmony” - however, this simply isn't true.
I recently resigned from the Historic Landmarks Commission* to protest three unprecedented cases of racial bias in the Town's enforcement of local ordinances, including the most egregious violation of historic preservation standards since Harpers Ferry became a National Historic District in 2009 (see ‘Three Bias Cases’ below).
First, it’s important to know: Harpers Ferry is a NATIONAL treasure... so if you’re an American, this is YOUR TOWN, and you have an important voice in deciding what happens here… "the place where the end to American slavery began" -Frederick Douglass.
To show proper respect for this heritage, we need an independent State/Federal authority to analyze what happened and help us ensure that even the appearance of cronyism and racial bias is avoided going forward.
Please sign this petition to show your support for preserving Harpers Ferry’s unique character and stories with equity so they may continue inspiring and educating future visitors for generations to come.
