Intel Corporation: Hire contingent "temporary" workers if a second contract has been signed.

The Issue

Intel Corporation isn't the only game in town for tech work in the Phoenix valley area, but they are one of the biggest. It's unfair to anybody to stay as a temporary worker for up to 6 years without benefits.

Intel has a poor practice of using temporary workers repeatedly over and over for contract work for years at a time without offering them a position. In Arizona it's legal for workers to be on contract with Intel for up to 1.5 years; after such time the worker cannot work for Intel for 6 months ”basically unemployed”. Intel will then hire the "temporary" contingent worker back again under a new contract after six months. When a contingent workers contract is up, Intel just hires another worker to do the exact same job as the previous; Intel is just weaseling out of taking care of its workforce.

Many contingent "temporary" workers go 2 or 3 contracts before giving up or moving onto other companies. This can equate to as much as 6 years of being a temporary worker, without medical benefits, and without a job security. This can make planning a career extremely frustrating, especially when a Corporation as big as Intel doesn't want to hire highly skilled workers who have spent tens of thousands of dollars on high tech fields of study only to be dismissed because they do not want the obligation to pay benefits.

Intel Corporation is taking advantage of weak employment laws in Arizona and making temporary workers feel like second class citizens. I feel it is a form of slave labor and its pretty sad a Corporation as big as Intel feels that’s okay.
