As a deeply concerned UK citizen, watching my country grapple with an alarming and seemingly uncontrollable tide of illegal migration is distressing. The incursion of unauthorised boats crossing the English Channel is much more than just a crack in our borders, it costs the UK millions which should rather be allocated to improving the lives of our people.

According to the House of Commons Library, an estimated £55million was expended in 2019 alone on immigration control, a significant portion of which is directly attributed to these maritime border breaches. This expense comes at the detriment of internal programs focused on education, health, and welfare of British citizens (House of Commons Library, 2019).

The Labour Government has a responsibility to protect our borders, and by extension, our resources. We call upon them to urgently instruct the first sea lord to halt all unauthorized boats in the English Channel with immediate effect and escort them back to France.

Putting a stop to these unlawful crossings will not only serve to strengthen our national security but also send a clear message about our commitment to lawful immigration. It will preserve public funds for our own national growth and development while promoting a more controllable, fair, and effective immigration system.
