We need our Town Councils, the Regional Municipality of York and Metrolinx to work together to INSTALL PEDESTRIAN SAFETY BARRIERS and STOP THE EXCESSIVE USE OF TRAIN WHISTLES ACROSS YORK REGION!

Studies show the noise of blaring train horns not only affects the well-being of residents and workers within a 2km radius of the tracks, it also hugely impacts wildlife. Transport Canada is aware of the problem and has provided a process for municipalities to end train whistling when an investment in safety equipment at level crossings is made, particularly modernizing pedestrian safety infrastructure. To date in York Region, only the City of Markham has been able to achieve cessation of train whistles following this procedure. Whistle cessation for Markham was jointly funded by the City of Markham and the Regional Municipality of York. Surely, if one community can get funding... so should all in York Region. Once the trains are going through our towns every fifteen minutes, the noise will increase. 

Working together we can KEEP PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS SAFE and STOP TRAIN WHISTLES IN OUR TOWNS!   

                        ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!  SPREAD THE WORD...   

Once completed, and ALL SAFETY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE we can SILENCE THE HORNS like the City of Markham did in February 2020.
