I am one among several evening basketball players at Fawkner Park, struggling with the current lighting conditions. In winter, when it gets dark early, the existing lights simply cannot provide the necessary illumination for a safe and enjoyable game. Not being able to see clearly not only affects our performance but also increases the risk of accidents and injuries. We believe that a better lit court would be a significant improvement and greatly appreciated by everyone in our community.

According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, proper illumination is not just essential for nighttime sports but it enhances safety and reduces crime in parks (source: "Lighting the Way", ASCE). Bright, high-powered lights can contribute to a better atmosphere and improved community engagement. The Environmental and Energy Study Institute also outlines how LED lighting can provide superior visibility while being energy-efficient (source: "LED Lighting and Sports", EESI).

We urge the responsible authorities to consider installing high-powered lights around Fawkner Park's basketball court. This will not just better our basketball experience but also contribute to the safety and vibrancy of our beloved park, particularly during the early darkness of winter evenings.
