Install cctv cameras at Nairns Boat Ramp, Bertram Street
The issue
I'm a resident of Coodanup who has grown increasingly frustrated with the rampant hooning and irresponsible behavior taking place at Nairns Boat Ramp on Bertram Street. This area, which should be a peaceful and enjoyable location for the community and visitors alike, is being transformed into a hotspot of nuisance activities that not only disrupt the peace but also pose serious safety concerns for everyone who visits.
The lack of proper surveillance has encouraged this unwanted behavior to persist unchecked, and it's time we take concrete action to reclaim our community spaces. By installing CCTV cameras at key points around the boat ramp, we can deter such actions and ensure a safer and more welcoming environment. Not only would this technology serve as a deterrent to potential offenders, but it would also provide crucial evidence for authorities to act upon when incidents occur.
Statistics show that areas with CCTV cameras experience significant reductions in crime rates. Studies by the Urban Institute reveal that public surveillance systems can help reduce crime rates by as much as 16-20%. In our case, placing surveillance at Nairns Boat Ramp could drastically cut down on dangerous stunts and antisocial behavior, promoting a more secure environment for families and tourists who wish to enjoy the scenic views and amenities without the threat of danger.
Moreover, similar initiatives in other suburban areas have not only enhanced public safety but have also improved property values and community satisfaction. Installing CCTV cameras would protect investments by homeowners and the local authority and promote pride in the community.
I call upon the City of Mandurah and other relevant authorities to prioritize this initiative and allocate the necessary resources. By working together, we can create a safe, secure, and inviting Nairns Boat Ramp for everyone. Please sign this petition to show your support for a proactive solution to a growing problem.
