Install a Play Area for middle-schoolers at Tenison Woods College.

The issue

Hi, I'm Jake Parker, and I am the Middle School Leader and TWC. Today, I ask for your signing for the reasons below.

Picture this, it's lunch break. You've been sitting in the class all day doing nothing, not moving from your seat. You go out to lunch, and all there is to do is sit there and chat with your friends. The oval is closed because of wet weather, and all other playgrounds are for other year levels. What better thing to do then just walk around aimlessly?

The Gilap Wanga grass space would create a great play space for Year 7's, Year 8's, and possibly Year 9's providing they can use the space responsibly. Those who I have spoken to would prefer this playground to contain a swing set, and maybe some lawn games like bocce and finska, however they are happy with any other space that allows them to move around and be active.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (.gov), adolescents are expected to get 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day. Recess is 20 minutes, lunch is about 40. If they spend this time playing on the playground, they can get their daily dose of activity while interacting with others.

So, I ask you, if you agree that middle schoolers should have a source of entertainment and physical activity during breaks, then please sign this, your signing of this makes a huge difference to hundreds of students.

Best Regards,

Jake Parker
