The Issue
Calisthenics has changed my life and helped dozens of Rutgers students get into the best shape of our lives. As members of the Rutgers Calisthenics Club—many of us from Edison—we want to give back by bringing these benefits to our hometown. Installing a calisthenics park at Edison would offer a free, healthy space for residents of all ages to stay active and build community.
Imagine a welcoming outdoor space in Edison where residents of all ages can enjoy simple, low-impact exercise in a peaceful, natural setting. A calisthenics park can quietly enhance the park by offering a safe, free, and inclusive place for fitness and well-being—without disrupting the surrounding neighborhood. Right now, many in our community, from kids to seniors, lack accessible and affordable places to stay active. This park can help fill that gap while keeping Edison’s character and calm intact.
Calisthenics parks are low-cost, sustainable solutions that require minimal maintenance while delivering long-term health and community benefits. Unlike sports courts that serve specific age groups or require team play, calisthenics equipment—such as pull-up bars, dip bars, and monkey bars—can be used by anyone, at any time, regardless of skill level. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, only 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. meets the recommended guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activity. A thoughtfully designed calisthenics space would help bridge this gap by providing free access to full-body strength training in a quiet, inclusive, and self-paced setting. With equipment that could cost as little as $5,000 to $10,000—far less than a full-size court—it’s a highly affordable investment in public health, one that encourages active living without disrupting the surrounding community.
Moreover, public parks reduce urban stress and contribute to environmental visually appealing community efforts. They enhance the quality of life and increase the value of surrounding properties. Implementing such a facility in Edison would undoubtedly make exercise more accessible while also boosting the park's existing offerings.
Let's build a healthier Edison, starting with a calisthenics park in Edison. Sign this petition to support bringing a space that promotes physical fitness, fosters community spirit, and improves quality of life for all. Together, we can make a difference. Please sign this petition and help us realize this vision for a healthier, happier community.
