Bike Lanes for Big Bay Point Road

Bike Lanes for Big Bay Point Road
Bike Lanes are urgently needed for Big Bay Point Road!
Unfortunately, incidents between vehicles and cyclists are a regular occurrence. Are we going to wait until fatalities occur?
Big Bay Point Road has become increasingly busy with vehicular traffic, especially since the emergence and continued growth of Friday Harbour. The population of the Big Bay Point area has seen, and will continue to see, a steady rise. Meanwhile, Big Bay Point Road remains the only way in or out.
The stretch of road out near Big Bay Point, from the western entrance to Friday Harbour (BBP Road and Friday Drive, to the lake itself), seems especially at risk. This 2-3 km stretch has a particularly high amount of pedestrian and cyclist traffic, on a daily basis, from dawn to dusk. And a lot of vehicles going too fast. It would be nice to walk or cycle to the corner store without feeling that you're putting your life at risk!
We realize that there are costs involved, and a lot of roads 'on the list' for this upgrade. But it is hard to imagine an area with a more dire and pressing need. And also, it seems like a pretty easy, and relatively cheap fix - there is already an ample shoulder - it just needs to be paved. No land acquisition necessary.
This is an issue of utmost importance to the majority of residents in the Big Bay Point area.
And in the meantime, it's a very serious accident waiting to happen.
In signing this petition, I support the urgent need for bike lanes along Big Bay Point Road and ask Innisfil Town Council to do whatever they can in their power to make this happen, as quickly as they can. I also support this matter being brought to Council at an upcoming meeting.
