Initiate a National Health Service for Animals in the UK

The Issue

Veterinary care is an essential part of our society, ensuring the health and wellbeing of all animals, whether they are pets, farm animals or wildlife. However, this care has become increasingly unaffordable for many pet owners. Charity vets are overwhelmed with demand leading to long waiting lists. The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA), a major provider of free veterinary care, can no longer run a night service and often only offers emergency appointments due to high demand.

This situation is causing unnecessary suffering for animals and stress for their owners who cannot afford private veterinary fees. It's time that we extend the principles of universal healthcare that we enjoy as humans to our animal counterparts.

We propose the creation of a National Health Service (NHS) for Animals in the UK. This would provide necessary healthcare services to every domestic pet, farm animal and wildlife creature in need across our country.

According to PDSA's PAW Report 2020, 2.6 million dogs went without preventive healthcare treatments last year due to financial constraints faced by their owners. This not only impacts individual animal welfare but also the well being of their owners in keeping a pet.

The creation of an NHS for Animals would ensure that all creatures get access to necessary medical treatment, including neutering and microchipping, regardless of their owner’s financial situation or species status – farm, wild or domesticated.

Please sign this petition urging our government officials to initiate an NHS system dedicated solely towards Animal Healthcare Services across the UK.
