My name is Megan Dabney. I have 2 children on the autism spectrum. My son is 18 and nonverbal and my daughter is 17 with some speech but a lot of behavioral issues. Finding resources for them when they were young and not aggressive was difficult enough. Now that they are older and one has the more challenging behaviors, help is non-existent. There is very few options in Indiana for housing, resources for families, and sufficient care for those on the spectrum with aggression and self-injury. I personally know a lot of parents who are unable to work because they cannot find the care needed for their children. This is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately. There is a growing number of people on the spectrum and parents that are getting too old or are unable to care for them due to behaviors. Housing options for ALL of those on the spectrum needs to be increased. Too many parents are left without a plan for when they pass and their children are without a caregiver. Most of these people will end up homeless or in jail. They deserve better. Please sign this petition so that our government recognizes the severe need for improvement for those on the spectrum. We need help.
