Save The Great Indian Bustard
Save The Great Indian Bustard
The Issue
Management of grasslands along with unabated hunting has resulted in the gradual extermination of one of the largest flying birds that can stand tall up to one metre height-the Great Indian Bustard. Majority of them living in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra,Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
With the change in landscape and habitat the Great Indian Bustard were 'forced 'out of protected areas and into unfavourable territories. These birds lay their eggs on the ground, As these birds were moved out of their protected areas , their eggs were often destroyed by cattle grazing and by predators. Hatching of eggs become impossible. Due to their habitat loss they are not able to survive.
"These birds play an important role in maintaining the balance of grassland ecology. In fact , they are farmer's friends as they prey in insects that harm farm produce.
Number of Great Indian Bustard can be received to a great extent if we let the grass grow, then the birds will return to their home.If immediate steps are not taken at the earliest,we will end up losing one of the rarest and beautiful birds species.
Valuing and conserving nature enchanes the relation of man and nature.
