The Issue

The hardworking residents of Alberta are facing an uphill battle. The minimum wage in Alberta is currently the lowest in the country, leaving many struggling to cover basic expenses. The high cost of living - exacerbated by the recent COVID pandemic and the ongoing trade war - has made it nearly impossible for individuals earning minimum wage to make ends meet. It is time for us to address this wage disparity and promote economic justice. According to Living Wage Canada, the living wage in Calgary, one of Alberta's largest cities, in 2024 was $23.70per hour- significantly higher than the provincial minimum wage of $15.00 per hour. It's clear that the current minimum wage fails to suitably compensate the residents of Alberta for their hard work, in turn propagating an ever-widening income gap. We demand that the provincial government recognize the invaluable contributions of their lower-wage workers and increase the minimum wage in Alberta so that all working Alberta residents can afford a basic standard of living. This is not only a matter of fairness, but it is critical for safeguarding the well-being of our communitymembers. Please sign this petition to advocate for a livable wage in Alberta.
