I literally get $1,400 a month from ODSP and that is how much my rent costs. I literally have no money to feed myself.
Ontario prides itself on being a place that is inclusive and supportive of all its residents, yet the current financial support provided to disabled individuals contradicts these values. People with disabilities often face barriers to employment and must rely on government support to cover living expenses. When this support fails to keep pace with inflation and essential living costs, it leaves us struggling and vulnerable.
Statistics from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation highlight that the average rent in Ontario has increased disproportionately compared to the financial aid available to those in need. The government's increase of just 1.9% is inadequate, especially considering the latest Consumer Price Index, which indicates a higher general cost of living increase.
I remember a time when living in Ontario meant feeling secure and cared for by our government. That love and care seem to be eroding, leaving many without necessary support.
