My son has recently been excluded from attending a pre school service due to an additional need that the service could not be bothered addressing, hiding behind the ideal that 'this is how we have always done it here'. In addition to this, he is delayed in his toilet training and despite us trying to work with the preschool to cater for his needs, the new director has simply declared him to be unfit and too difficult.

This practice needs to stop, all children deserve the basic right of being treated equally and having access to the same quality level of care and education regardless of their physical, emotional or intellectual needs. The world was once flat until someone took a boat trip, change occurs when the 'norm' is questioned and thus improved.

Update 9/6/23

The department of education whilst acknowledging that what has happened in ethically and morally wrong, says that no laws have been broken which is astounding. It is time to end this type of practice. We plan to take this our local politicians so enforce change to legislation, for that, we need signatures and support. Let's make Australia better!

Apparently, sharing my thoughts, views and opinions on the matter constitutes defamation according to the preschool in question despite me not naming them. So with that in mind, let me reiterate that no laws have been broken nor policies. The purpose of this petition is to change the way that children who do not fit a prescribed box are included in early childhood education settings. I won't be silenced on what I feel is something that needs to change.
