Include the remainder of Southern River into the Harrisdale Highschool Intake!
For years now, only the western more established part of Southern River formed part of the Harrisdale Senior High School (HSHS) intake, leaving the eastern, emerging and newer parts of Southern River excluded. An updated 2023 intake map for HSHS still excludes this portion of Southern River. Piara Waters Secondary School will open in 2023, removing next year much of Harrisdale Senior High School's current intake Westwards, therefore in a reasonable sense, there should be capacity to include the rest of Southern River in Harrisdale Senior High School's new intake or at-least the possibility to cater for a two school (Southern River College and Harrisdale Senior High School) optional intake.
The suburb of Southern River as a whole shares a very similar demographic to that of Harrisdale, however currently the eastern half is covered by Southern River College but this is in the Gosnells suburb proper. Southern River is a modern and up-coming suburb with young families that deserves a chance or option in accessing modern school facilities that HSHS offers.
A community member stressed that they do not want their child to seperate from the majority of their friends from Primary School, noting that because they lived 2 streets out of the boundary she could not send their child to the same High School as their peers.
Proximity and location wise, including the remainder of Southern River in the intake zone would not be a logistical challenge for parents and students. A new 233 Bus Route along Southern River Road provides easy access to the school and driving wise, only entails a 5-10 minute commute for school drop offs. The incorporation of Southern River in the catchment zone will provide ease of access to the parents in the community.
Finally, due to the lack of a public high school in Southern River proper, it is a logical and reasonable to request to have Southern River as an entire suburb to not have a divided secondary school intake. Further, Harrisdale land development is slowing down as big land portions have already been subdivided in the suburb meaning that population growth in the school and suburb will also eventually slow down. Children from Bletchley Park Primary or Southern Grove Primary both have different High School intakes based on the child's home address, and separating children from their friends come time for High School is not ideal.
We the undersigned kindly request you to consider including the eastern parts of Southern River in a new Year 7 local intake area of Harrisdale Senior High School.
