Shearing is one of the oldest and most competitive sports in Australia.

It is only fitting that at the next Australian Olympic Games to be held in Brisbane Australia in 2032, that Shearing and Wool Handling be included as an Exhibition Sport.

Besides Australia, numerous other countries hold sheep shearing competitions, including South Africa, Japan, USA, France, Germany, Ireland, South America, the UK, and New Zealand.

In shearing competitions, the competitors are not only judged on how fast they can shear but also how tidily they shear.

We should raise the profile of this thrilling and underecognised sport that is founded on the honest work of everyday men and women, many of whom come from poor, rural and minority backgrounds. 

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make the final decision on which sports are included in the 2032 program.
