Believing strongly in the importance of communication and building inclusive societies, I have felt profoundly the need for British Sign Language (BSL) to be more accessible and widespread. Being deaf or hard of hearing should not limit anyone from participating fully in society. Unfortunately, many online learning platforms, namely Duolingo, are yet to offer courses in BSL. Thereby neglecting a significant portion of our community, who depends on this form of communication.

BSL, utilized by an estimated 151,000 adults in the UK according to the British Deaf Association, is not just a "nice-to-have" skill, it is a necessity, a basic human right. Despite the popularity and effectiveness of Duolingo, supporting the learning of over 300 million users worldwide, a BSL course is missing. Such a course would bridge significant gaps, broadening the reach of BSL education and decreasing barriers amongst communities.

Considering the need for this essential life skill, I urge Duolingo to introduce a comprehensive BSL course. Let's raise our voices—or in this case, our hands—to announce the need for a step towards inclusivity. Support this cause for a more accessible and inclusive society. Please, sign this petition.
