Improving the rules and regulations of Jewnity sports - let the players have a voice.
The Issue
The rules set by jewnity include several strict guidelines regarding player attendance and the use of substitutes:
Substitution Rules:
Subs must wear a designated sub jersey and pay $20 per game.
Each sub is limited to playing in 4 games per season and cannot play in playoffs.
Using a sub results in the opposing team getting 2 technical shots and starting with possession. And you must purchase an additional substitute jersey for $40.
Attendance Rules:
Teams must have 5 players by game start.
If a team lacks 5 players, the opposing team gains 1 point per minute until the missing player arrives.
If the team still lacks 5 players after 10 minutes, the game is forfeited.
Uniform Regulations:
Full uniforms are mandatory, and players must purchase an extra set to avoid issues.
No jersey swapping or sharing is allowed.
We are essentially being told:
“You are allowed a sub, but if you have a sub you get a technical foul, and the other team gets 2 free throws and starts with the ball, also the sub can only sub 4 times a season, and must pay $20 each time. You also have to pay $40 to get a sub jersey, But if you don’t have a sub, and don’t have 5 players, your opponents will get 1 point for every minute you don’t have 5 players, and if you don’t have 5 players for 10 minutes you are disqualified”
We, the players of Jewnity Sports, would like to address our concerns regarding the new rules on substitutes and player attendance. Jewnity Sports is meant to unite communities through the power of sports, but these new rules are placing undue restrictions on players. We find the $20 fee for each substitute excessive, especially since players are already required to purchase an additional jersey. Furthermore, considering that each player has paid $300 to participate in the league, these additional costs and penalties are burdensome.
We propose that the substitute fee be significantly reduced or eliminated, given the financial commitment already made by the players. Additionally, instead of penalizing teams for a delayed player, we suggest allowing the opposing team the choice to either play 4 on 5 full court or 4 on 4 half court until the fifth player arrives. Lastly, players should be allowed to wear shorts of their choice. This approach would maintain the competitive balance without unduly punishing teams and detracting from the spirit of the game.
