The issue

I am requesting that the parking restrictions at the exit of our workplace car park be reviewed due to significant safety concern. When exiting the car park and turning right onto Cochranes Road, visibility of traffic approaching from the right is generally clear. However, visibility of vehicles approaching from the left is severely obstructed by cars parked right up to the driveway. This makes it extremely difficult to safely judge whether it is clear to exit the carpark.

I was nearly involved in a collision because my view of oncoming traffic from the left was blocked by parked vehicles. I believe it poses ongoing risks for both drivers leaving the carpark and motorists travelling along Cochranes Road.

Clik Collective is a thriving hub, and its parking facilities see a significant amount of traffic daily. Yet, the main car park exit has become a perilous point due to parked vehicles that block the line of sight for drivers. This issue severely compromises safety, increasing the risk of accidents and jeopardizing the well-being of drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.

The problem at hand is serious and demands immediate action from the responsible authorities. To improve safety and prevent potential accidents, the visibility at this exit needs to be enhanced. A possible solution would be to implement parking restrictions near the exit, allowing a clear line of sight for drivers merging onto Cochranes Road.

A simple solution would be to designate the first two parking spaces closest to the driveway as 'No Standing' or 'No Parking'. This would significantly improve sight lines for drivers exiting the car park and help reduce the risk of accidents.

The facts speak for themselves. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, blocked views account for a significant percentage of intersection crashes. Furthermore, a study by Monash University Accident Research Centre highlights that improving visibility can dramatically decrease accident rates.

Every car park user deserves to feel safe while navigating the exit. The well-being of our community members should be prioritized over convenience. We need to address this issue before it results in a serious injury or worse.

Join me in urging the local authorities to promptly take action to improve visibility at the car park exit onto Cochranes Road and to help keep all members of Clik Collective and others safe. Your signature can make a difference and drive change towards a safer parking experience. Please sign this petition to advocate for enhanced safety measures and to ensure the protection of all who use this exit.
