Improve Taylor Swift Merchandise Sales Process for Fans

The Issue

Taylor Swift fans are the backbone of her immense success, consistently supporting her music and merchandise.

Despite our unwavering loyalty and significant financial contributions, our experience when attempting to purchase merchandise has been fraught with frustration and unfairness. This petition seeks to address these issues by urging Universal Music Group to implement changes that ensure fairness and protect fan interests during merchandise sales.

We want to make it very clear that none of this is aimed at Taylor herself, we love her to pieces.  This squarely resides with who is responsible for merchandising stock logistics, availability and website tools.

#1 - Lack of  "Your cart is reserved for" on Merch store

A major concern lies in the lack of a protected basket during the checkout process. It's disheartening to find limited edition items we highly covet selected snatched from our virtual baskets by scalpers. Offering a reserved basket for at least several minutes would allow us, the genuine fans, to purchase the items we love without fear of losing them to those who merely seek profit.

It's really upsetting to have to rush through and panic buy stuff because you know it will sell out in seconds.  Take example of the Opalite necklace.  It dropped on the site at 17:09:09 and was sold out by 17:10.  51 seconds.  This is not on.

This change will not only enhance our purchasing experience but will likely increase revenue, as fans will feel encouraged to purchase more when they do not have to rush through the selection process.  This is possible in Shopify as confirmed by their website so the tool is available - UMG has chosen not to put this in place.  (https://community.shopify.com/t/protecting-items-in-your-cart-once-out-of-stock/82326

#2 - Limiting items to 1 per person unless extensive stock.

To further deter scalpers, we propose that highly prized and specialist items be restricted to one per customer. This action ensures a fairer distribution of merchandise among devoted fans and maintains the integrity and spirit of Taylor Swift's community. Such a policy would help ensure that more fans have the opportunity to own a piece of Swift-related memorabilia without unfair competition from those who exploit the system for financial gain.

EG signed, Snowglobes, Christmas Ornaments etc.  I have screen shotted the greed cause by the signed CDs's in America when people were allowed to purchase 16 units per person.  It should have been 1 per person on a random picture selection.  The International fans did not received anything they were able to purchase.

#3 - Loyalty/Point System

We have found that due to again, scalpers, bots etc that getting pre-sale tickets for shows or first access to "secret sales" would be a really fair way of rewarding the actual fan base.  You could incorporate a loyalty based system that would collect points on the website by doing certain challenges; eg

*overpaying for postage on staggered drops such as recent Showgirl.

*Sharing social media posts like on the Archive pages - outfits/merch

*Completing tasks and challenges such as the TikTok Eras Banner one.

#4 - Stock Availability

Very recently there seems to be huge issues that stock is sold out before it's actually live on the website.  TLOAS signed CD's, Opalite Necklace, TLOAS Tumbler.  All sort out within seconds in Europe/UK.  Then minutes later all the items appear with hundreds of % markup on ebay.  Please can you just make enough items or just have them on pre-order such as the Vinyl case so you can just make them to order.

Also can Internationals please just have the Eras Tour Book which never re-appeared after selling out in minutes but yet is readily available in Target still!

Action Points for Universal Music Group

#1 - Give us a protected basket.  10 mins for example, if not checked out by then, the stock is released. If in a queue to check out - time should be as long as it takes to check out.

#2 Captcha codes for ALL stock or "answer a question" Also having the login button roaming so bots cannot locate it as easily.

#3 Limit all stock to 1 item per person per address unless extensive inventory or 2 weeks (Fornight!) has passed. Vinyl cases, Vinyl Variants, Signed CD's, Christmas Decorations, Snow Globes, Christmas Tree Farm Merch amongst others.

#4 Postage & Packaging.  Please ensure all items are packaged appropriately due to theft and loss.  Many unhappy fans about paying multiple postage costs so either refund overpaid postage by store credit or for pre-sales - collect and send together.

Implementing these measures would demonstrate that both Universal Music Group and Taylor Swift's team value and respect the dedication of her fanbase. We believe that by taking these steps, our voice as fans will be heard and cherished.

Please join us in signing this petition to create a more equitable merchandise shopping experience for all Taylor Swift fans. Our loyalty and support deserve protection and appreciation.
