Our children deserve a safe and enjoyable place to play, but unfortunately, the Morayfield Landing Playground does not currently meet that standard. As a concerned local resident and parent, I have witnessed the discomfort and danger posed by the lack of adequate shade over the playground equipment at Morayfield Landing Estate.

As temperatures rise and the sun becomes more intense, the absence of shade over this vital community space makes it difficult for families to enjoy the playground without the risk of sunburn or heat-related illnesses. The playground equipment can become unbearably hot, deterring the children who should be able to play freely and safely. This is particularly concerning on warm and sunny days when UV exposure can be the highest.

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, prolonged sun exposure is a major risk factor for developing skin cancer, including melanoma, in children and adults alike. Implementing adequate shade structures is not just a matter of comfort; it is a health imperative.

The solution is clear: we need the local council and stakeholders responsible for the upkeep of Morayfield Landing Estate to install high-quality shade structures. These shades will bridge the gap between safety and enjoyment, ensuring our park lives up to the PlaySafe Standards every family in Morayfield deserves.
