As a resident of Stockland Pallara estate, I have firsthand witnessed the terrifying impact of 2022 floods and recently, Cyclone Alfred. Our flood management areas, designed to protect our homes and investments, are disconcertingly neglected. This matter urgently begs the attention of Brisbane City Council. These areas have repeatedly left our community in a distressing state of vulnerability during extreme weather events. Beyond the physical danger, this jeopardizes our ability to secure affordable home and contents insurance. According to the Insurance Council of Australia, areas with subpar flood management systems often face hefty insurance premiums (ICA, 2020). Our call is not only for an immediate reassessment of flood management areas but also for their continual maintenance to ensure the safety and financial security of residents in Stockland Pallara estate.
