Implore the Wealthy to Financially Aid the People of Palestine

The Issue

This plea comes from the deepest recesses of my heart. I have always held an unwavering belief in the power of human kindness, equality and equity, and collective responsibility, and the critical situation in Palestine calls for this more than ever. I'm not alone in the sheer helplessness I experienced while witnessing the horrors that persist in this region. Think of all those people on the other side of the world fearing for their lives every day. Thus, I am challenging those financially capable, especially the wealthy, to step out of watching, and assume active roles in the possibility of changing lives in Palestine.

Palestine has been under continuous attack, leading to everlasting devastating effects on its innocent civilians. The violence, notably attributed to territorial disputes and ideological differences, has made countless families unable to access basic needs, including a safe place to live (UN OCHA, 2020). The urgency to flee this conflict-ridden area is real and tangible and requires substantial funding - a resource not readily available to many Palestinians.

This is where we pose the challenge to the affluent - to give a hand to these innocent lives caught in a crossfire they never asked for, to help them secure safe havens away from the fear of genocide and terrorism. It's an appeal to humanity, a plea for compassion, and a call to action. It's a substantial opportunity for the rich to play their part in alleviating this human crisis.

"Never again. That’s what’s said every time a genocide or crime against humanity occurs" (From "Syria", a petition initiated by Gemima Rigby, December 10th, 2019). Those words I see on the screen of another petition, one of many, advocating for the permanent ceasefire of genocide carried out by apartheid, remind me that those words mean nothing if action is not taken by all especially if not by the financially capable who would bring meaningful change to the table. That money sitting in your account, being spent on frivolous, materialistic items, or who wants to extend a green hand but doesn't know who to extend it to would do good if donated to people like Bilal Abu Sultan, who is suffering from rapidly spreading tumors on many parts of the upper half of his body and cancer in the head and heart, who cannot receive treatment as most hospitals in Gaza have been destroyed, and Asem Mezyad and Motaz Mezied who have dreams of becoming doctors but can't help the ill and injured without having money to evacuate and fund their education. The burden of change should not rest solely on the shoulders of the victims and those who don't have the funds to support those GoFundMes. It's high time we, who have the means to make a difference, extend our resources and meet this moral responsibility. Your contribution could mark the difference between life and death; it could represent hope for the Palestine people. Please, stand with Palestine. Sign this petition, urge the wealthy to help, and let us together save as many lives as possible. It is very heartbreaking to see countless families and individuals having to beg for their lives. This isn't right. Please share in my passion and unwavering belief in freedom for all.
