The Issue

As a parent with a child attending Palatine school in Worthing, I have witnessed the potential dangers that our children face every day due to the absence of important traffic control measures, specifically a school crossing. Special Education Needs (SEN) students require extra measures for their safety, and a proper crossing is not just essential, it's a basic necessity.

According to the Transportation Research Board, the presence of a crossing guard reduces the threat of a kid being hit by a car by about two-thirds (66%). The odds are even higher (88%) for locations that had been dangerous before a guard was assigned. The chances of serious injury or unfortunate fatalities significantly decline when we enforce traffic regulation measures surrounding educational institutions.

In light of the above, we are pleading for local fairness and common sense. The application of a crossing, along with any other suitable safety measures, outside our SEN school should be mandatory.

By signing this petition, we urge local government and policy makers to take our concern into immediate consideration. Our childrens' safety is not a privilege, it's a right. Let's protect them as they become the best that they could be - at a place where they should feel the safest. Please sign and support our cause for a safer environment for our SEN children.
