The longest stretch of road in our community has claimed too many lives, turning what should be a safe and scenic drive into a perilous journey.

We know change is possible. The Pollock family successfully advocated for a reduction of the speed limit from 60mph to 50mph, but this has proven insufficient. The frequency of fatal accidents remains alarmingly high, and something must be done to protect everyone who uses this road.

The speed limit change was a crucial first step, but we can and must do more. Installing speed cameras and adding speed bumps are practical, effective measures that can significantly enhance road safety. These interventions are proven deterrents that can bring about real change and save lives.

The council has the power to enact these changes. We urge Westmorland and Furness Council to take immediate and decisive action to prevent further tragedies. With community support, we can persuade the council to implement these necessary safety features.
