Implement right-hand turns at St Clair Avenue and Woodville Road
The issue
Dear St Clair Residents,
Many of us have felt the frustration and burden of limited access at a crucial point in our community. Currently, there is no right-hand turn off St Clair Avenue onto Woodville Road, leaving us boxed in whenever we wish to travel south. Similarly, returning home to St Clair or visiting our local oval is made unnecessarily complex by the absence of a right-hand turn from Woodville Road onto St Clair Avenue.
I have personally engaged with representatives from the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) and had conversations on-site with someone from the transport minister's office. Unfortunately, it became clear that their decisions were pre-determined, and our meeting provided little opportunity for genuine dialogue or change.
This lack of accessibility affects not only our daily commutes but also our community's safety, and convenience. Currently, we are forced to take riskier routes, contributing to congestion and increasing the likelihood of accidents.
The absence of these right-hand turns impacts our environment as well. With detours adding unnecessary kilometres, we are inadvertently increasing our carbon footprint. Each additional minute spent idling or on detour routes compounds vehicular emissions, adversely affecting local air quality.
We believe the solution is both practical and essential. By implementing right-hand turns at this intersection, DIT can dramatically improve traffic flow and reduce hazards. This change will also enhance accessibility for the entirety of our community, from parents taking children to the oval to emergency services needing swift access.
Residents of St Clair, we must come together to demand that our voices are heard and acted upon. We form the heartbeat of this community and our collective voice can drive the change we need for safer, more efficient roads.
Sign this petition to urge the Department for Infrastructure and Transport to implement right-hand turns at the intersection of St Clair Avenue and Woodville Road. Let's improve access and safety for everyone in our community.
