Implement Neurodiversity Training in Parenting, Healthcare, Education, and Workplaces
The Issue
As a neurodivergent parent myself, I understand the unique challenges that come with neurodiversity. It is not just about parenting; it's also about healthcare, education and workplaces. We live in a world that often misunderstands or overlooks the needs of neurodiverse individuals. This lack of understanding can lead to exclusion and discrimination.
This past March I participated in Neurodiversity celebration week:
https://www.neurodiversityweek.com/
& Also Neurodivergent June 16th pride day:
https://www.neurodiversityprideday.com/
While it felt nice to celebrate, it didn't feel like the people outside of my supportive neurodiversity bubble understood, cared, or knew what was going on.
This is what lead me to start The Neuroaffirming Parent PODCAST
https://shows.acast.com/the-neuroaffirming-parent-podcast/
I need your help to spread this petition because it's important. A study published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders (2015), there is an urgent need for training programs designed to increase knowledge about neurodiversity across various sectors. Such training can help create more inclusive environments for all individuals regardless of their neurological makeup.
Sadly lots of parents don't understand the hereditary component of Neurodiversity. Lots of Neurodivergent kids don't understand that one or both of their parents have the same neurotype as them.
Overlap is also the rule of Neurodiversity. Lots of people have ADHD and Autism or AuDHD. Lots of Dyslexic people also have ADHD. Lots of Gifted students also have a neurotype like Autism, Dyslexia, or ADHD. This is called 2e, or twice exceptional.
We need to be calling on local governments, health organizations, educational institutions and businesses to implement Neurodiversity training programs. These programs should aim at increasing awareness and understanding about different neurological conditions such as Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Dyscalculia , Dyspraxia, Dyspraxia, Apraxia, PDA or Pathological Demand Avoidance, RSD or Rejection Sensitivity,Sensory processing differences,Giftedness, Depression, Anxiety, epilepsy, brain injuries and among many other fundementally different brain wiring in humans.
By doing so we can ensure that every individual receives equal opportunities irrespective of their neurological differences. Let us work together towards creating an inclusive society where everyone feels valued for who they are.
Please sign this petition if you believe in promoting inclusivity through Neurodiversity training!
