Implement Mandatory Bidet Spray Installations in All Commercial Buildings in Singapore
The Issue
I, like many Singaporeans, find it disconcerting that bidet sprays aren't a standard feature in all commercial buildings' restrooms in Singapore. The issue of hygiene and comfort is vital and needs to be addressed in our society. This cause isn't just personal to me, but it is essential for the community at large.
Body hygiene is globally recognized as a critical aspect of preventing the transfer of germs, including those capable of causing illnesses like the common cold to more serious diseases like meningitis, influenza, hepatitis A or COVID-19. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hand hygiene is the most vital measure to avoid the transmission of dangerous pathogens (CDC, Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings).
While toilet paper does the job to a certain extent, bidets can provide a much cleaner and more comfortable solution. A 2019 study by Toilet Foundry shows that using bidets can significantly reduce overall waste and is more environmentally friendly as it reduces toilet paper usage (Toilet Foundry, 2019 Bidet Study).
Lastly, there is a matter of respecting diversity and inclusivity considering that a large segment of Singapore's population is Muslim, and water is an essential part of their cleansing rituals.
Let's bring our city's hygiene standards to a new high. Let's make Singapore a pioneer in setting standards for sanitation facilities in commercial establishments. Together, we can make this change. Please sign this petition for mandatory bidet spray installations in all commercial toilets in Singapore.
