The reality of my life is a stark reminder of how race-based inequality plagues our society. Racial disparity is a pervasive issue with tangible impacts. According to a 2019 report by the United Nations, racial discrimination affects the economic, social, and political aspects of life for minority ethnicities across the globe (United Nations, 2019).

The lack of equal opportunities and the constant social marginalization demonstrate that we are nowhere close to a level playing field for every race. Our society needs to robustly address race equality, and it can start by implementing comprehensive legislation that not only deals with overt racial discrimination but also nuanced systemic bias.

For us living in the shadows of colonial oppression, the implementation of such laws will provide a beacon of hope - a tangible step toward freedom from centuries-old racism. It’s a path that will lead us to a society where a person is not judged by the color of their skin but by their character.
