Implement Free Dairy-Free Milk Options in Schools

Implement Free Dairy-Free Milk Options in Schools
The Issue
My child suffers from a dairy allergy. She feels left out at school since she can't enjoy a glass of milk like her peers due to her condition. Instead, while her friends savor their milk during meal times, my daughter makes do with water. This situation is a daily reminder of her difference, which is a challenging reality for any child to confront.
Dairy allergy isn't a rare occurrence. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, 2-3% of children younger than 3 years old have a milk allergy. Milk and foods made from milk are the third most common food allergens in children (ACAAI, n.d.). The statistics reflect the magnitude of this issue beyond just my daughter.
Implementing the option for dairy-free milk in schools is an accessible solution to this problem. There are numerous delicious and nutritious alternatives to moo-juice, such as almond milk, soy milk, and oat milk. Offering up these alternatives to children with milk allergies does not only provide them with a proper diet, but it also promotes inclusivity.
It's crucial that our schools adapt to the needs of its students, especially those with dietary restrictions. By providing dairy-free milk options, we not only protect students who have allergies but perceive them as equal parts of the community. Our children shouldn't feel different because of circumstances they can't control.
Please stand with me in advocating for the provision of free dairy-free milk in schools. Together, we can make every student feel included and cared for. Sign the petition today.
