I am a person living with Ulcerative colitis, a condition that, when in a 'flare' necessitates a diet free from gluten and/or dairy products, among other restrictions. This dietary requirement is not by choice but is crucial to managing my health. However, maintaining this diet becomes increasingly expensive due to the high cost of 'free from' products.

It's not just me; millions of people worldwide have similar medical conditions requiring special diets. For instance, about 1% of the global population has Celiac disease and must avoid gluten (source: World Gastroenterology Organization). Many more have lactose intolerance or other food allergies that necessitate specific dietary choices.

Given these facts, we urge the NHS, the government, supermarkets or food manufacturers to implement discount cards specifically for 'free from' products for individuals with a medically diagnosed need. Such as Celiac disease, allergies, crohns, colitis etc.. Such an initiative would significantly alleviate the financial burden on those who already face health challenges.
