I am a regular citizen, who has been attacked twice in my own home, my car stolen, and I constantly live in fear. My parent's car has also been stolen, and friends have been held at knife point. Our tranquil night's sleep is perpetually threatened, and stepping out after dusk feels like a monumental risk. Car thefts, intrusions, fires, and violent assaults are becoming the nightmarish normal.

Our town used to be a safe haven, alas, the escalating crime rates have led to considerable upheavals. It impacts not only our physical safety but also our mental well-being, leaving many traumatized. Insurance premiums have skyrocketed as a consequence, and there is a concerning exodus of police officers from the force.

This is not just a personal tragedy; it is a crisis that affects all Tamworth residents. And yet, despite these grave consequences, offenders are repeatedly set free, only to repeat their lawless conducts. It's high time for strict and fair measures. We urge relevant authorities to adapt laws akin to those in Queensland, colloquially known as "Adult Crime, Adult Time".

These laws hold that an adult committing a serious offense should be held accountable through adult consequences, regardless of their age. We believe such laws would deter criminal activities by imposing more severe consequences on repeat offenders.
