Implement a National Kidney Transplant System in Barbados

Implement a National Kidney Transplant System in Barbados
The Issue
Too many Barbadians are silently battling kidney failure without access to one of the most vital systems in modern healthcare - a national transplant list.
Right now, there’s no official registry in Barbados to match patients with potential kidney donors. Without it, families are left to navigate a painful and uncertain journey alone, often relying on luck, personal networks, or overseas care - options that are not available to everyone.
This issue is about more than medicine. It’s about real lives. People who are working, raising children, and trying to survive - while spending hours on dialysis machines, week after week, with no clear end in sight. The emotional and physical toll is relentless, and the current system leaves many without hope.
There is a chance for change. The Human Tissue Transplant Bill is currently sitting in Parliament. If passed, it would finally legalise deceased organ donation in Barbados and open the door to building a national transplant programme. But until the bill becomes law, and until systems are put in place to support it, people will continue to suffer.
The recent end of the UK-Barbados healthcare agreement has only made things worse. With fewer options abroad, the need to strengthen our healthcare systems at home is more urgent than ever.
This is not just a health crisis - it’s a matter of dignity, justice, and the right to live. Barbados has the heart. Now it needs the infrastructure.
Please sign and share this petition. Every signature is a voice for change - and a step toward giving Barbadians the second chances they deserve.
