The Issue

It's heartwarming to witness the beautiful sight of our community. Friendly neighbourhood chit-chat, children running across the playground, and the vibrant street life. Unfortunately, there is a major concern: Overgrown vegetation dominating our streets. As our vegetation grows uncared for, it can pose significant risks to our  neighbourhood, and serious threats to our infrastructure.

As students, we can't help but worry every time we walk to school.  Whether it's the roots underneath our feet or the looming branches above our heads, overgrown plants seriously affect our infrastructure. Wild roots can crack walkways and Overhanging branches can clog gutters and lead to moisture build up, which can unfortunately lead to decay. This results in higher repair costs for the city.  Branches in close range to utility lines can collide, leading to breakouts and fire hazards.

Additionally, dead or overgrown vegetation can drop, landing on potential pedestrians or infrastructure. Overgrown vegetation can be home to rodents, snakes and insects, which, sometimes, may carry diseases. They can also conceal signs and reduce visibility.

The solution is simple! We persuade our city into providing regular maintenance service for overgrown plants. By routinely managing vegetation, especially in key public walkways and around infrastructure, we can ensure a secure environment for our community and preserve the integrity of our community's infrastructure.

Let's prioritize safety and sustainability. If we start now,  we can prevent a multitude of damage and create a more aesthetically pleasing community! Please join us in urging for a proactive approach to landscaping maintenance. Sign this petition to demand city intervention for the management of overgrown plants.
