Justice For Brian Lewis
Justice For Brian Lewis
The Issue
Brian Lewis is a loving father, son, brother and companion who is currently serving a 36 yr prison term for a crime he didn't commit. Brian is no stranger to the system in fact he paid his past debt to society and once released. Vowed to never return to bondage, converting to Islam and practicing his faith. Brian spent more time with his children and other love ones enjoying his new found freedom. Brian being a basketball lover took to the court one faithful afternoon with some friends, in the midst of their five on five game. Two individuals snuck up and open fired. Brian and one friend escaped the ambush, yet one friend was struck and wounded, yet survived. During the investigation the victim/ witness gave his version of events that led up to him being shot. The Victim/witness and friend of Brian informed the investigators that he wasn't shot by the individuals he was playing ball with (Which included Brian) Yet Brian Lewis was still charged with attempt Murder, and given over two decades in Prison. The Victim/Witness didn't testify in the trial which lasted just 5 days, but did complete a sworn affidavit in defense of his friend Brian who he believed was being targeted because of his past. The Victim/witness stated in the affidavit that he went to the states Attorney 5 times to help exonerate Brian Lewis to no avail. Brian Lewis have been incarcerated in Pinckneyville Illinois Prison for the last 8 years. In an effort to get his case reviewed for an appeal this petition have been created to generate attention to the Systemic racism that have stolen 8 years of Brian life. Prison Reform is needed Now! It's an alarming number of African American men & women incarcerated for unjust reasons. I'm not saying everyone is innocent. Yet I know Brian is innocent. The Victim/Witness confirmed this fact himself. Please help me get due Justice for Brian Lewis he deserve to be home with his family, not sitting behind bars for his past mistakes and something he didn't do. #SignPlease!
