Dear fellow Indian,
Hope you are doing great.
Nobody can deny the power that Audio-Visual medium ie. Video format has. We are literally addicted to Video consumption 24x7 and not just millennials. It has the power to set subconscious beliefs and perceptions in the mind of the individual. Believe it or not, We do and believe what Media tell us. Fashion and trends are brought by Films is just one very basic example.
Above 2 quotes that you read above are about what Cinema should be and its power and responsibility.
Its clear from the quote's that Society > Cinema and not the other way around.
In layman language, Cinema is a channel to create art and should be utilised to educate the masses and share Good, if not great, true stories and ideas about our society and culture.
But, is it happening?
It seems like this equation is upside down. Cinema (Bollywood) is somehow a much Greater force shaping the Indian society and minds. There is a constant sublime undertone that displays Indian culture and people as third-world and idiotic.
The Reality is that it has been corrupted by few Elitist who set and control the Narrative about what Content(films) can be served to the Indian audience.
It seems now a days, audience are just served what they don't really understand and connect with. Ironically, it makes us feel uncomfortable about our Indian identity.
Due to this a whole lot of Real artistic actors/directors have been ignored/sidelined and they are not even allowed to share their stories. Great movie making requires all forms of support and not just capital.
This channel is being used to sell biases which is basically a platter full of lies about Hindu culture mostly. They mock Hinduism, mock relationships, mock politicians, Police, Judiciary, Govt. that are essential and important functions for a Healthy Society.
However recently, a silver lining has emerged where some Artists and directors like Mr. Vivek Agnihotri, Sh. Anupam Kher, Sh. Mithun chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar and their team has worked passionately on their own to bring a real story named Kashmir files out to public domain.
Their movie titled "The Kashmir Files." is based on 1990 Kashmir Genocide of Hindu Kashmiri pandits has hit like a reality and were a largely ignored story related to the history of our Beloved nation.
Before today, this traumatic memory of Real Kashmiri pandits, the victims of genocide, were untold for the last 30 years and it's only now the truth has finally come out. All kudos to Mr. Vivek Agnihotri ji and team.
There is a lot of expected debates, hashtag wars on TV Media, Social media channels, whether the movie was truthful or not. We leave this Verdict to News channels/Twitter and it doesn't really matters.
What really matters is Truth, the Content and the power/reach of Cinema. It's simple "We need truthful movies like this to be made."
The agenda of this Petition is to gain traction on the Idea that truthful Movies like this deserved to be recognised at the highest podium for World cinema like the Oscars.
The agenda is about setting a Narrative for the Content that we want to consume on daily basis about our country and society. As it shapes our thoughts and mindset about our Indian culture.
If you think it makes sense and you agree to it, Pls sign these petition and forward it to your friends or social media.
If not, thats OK too.
Thanks a lot for your time.
If you have reached this far, It means you are 100% aligned to this Petition's thought. Good day.
P.S. I am in no-way a victim nor related to Kashmir issue. I am a 30+ Indian citizen aka the Common man based out in Delhi who loves Cinema and has been confused lately about declining position of Hindi film industry in recent decade. Thus the Petition. Pls support and spread the word.
