With the knowledge that the Proctortack system recently experienced a security breach, and therefore has the potential to again, students at Humber College do not think it is safe and/or necessary for students to be allowing this system complete access to their computers. Many of us have personal information such as banking information, medical information, or personal emails/conversations to name a few. It is exploitive of our right to privacy, as students have been diligent with academic integrity and do not warrant suspicion for invasive proctoring. There are also no in-class options for test taking for students who are not comfortable sharing personal information with Proctortrack. It's confusing how it is safe for students to access campus for labs, and safe for students to participate in activities such as volunteer and clinical placement hours, but not safe for students to simply come to campus, write a test, and leave. We are extremely concerned about allowing a system that can be easily hacked access to our personal information, as this system collects information from a multitude of applications on students’ desktops/laptops including sensitive information such as log-ins and passwords. With the knowledge that this system has already been hacked, it is irresponsible to expect students to ignore that fact, and again share their personal information to this system. Again,

Humber is aware that this system has been hacked and still wants to make it a mandatory component of testing which is directly putting students at risk for yet another security breach. This software is anxiety-inducing and hinders the process for exams; there are better methods that could be considered. There is also no information provided on how the Humber faculty or Proctortrack system intend to prevent another security breach and ensure the safety of students. If there was a breach at any facility that holds your personal information such as a bank, health clinic, or cosmetic clinic, you would not trust that provider and most likely not return, it is wrong to expect students to do exactly that by again putting trust in a system that has proven to be untrustworthy.

By allowing proctortrack access to a computer you are allowing access to the following sensitive information:

-Computer files

-Names and identification forms (drivers licenses, Ontario ID card)

-Phone numbers

-Addresses

-Photographs

-Usernames and passwords

-Employment information

-Email address

-Screen-captures

-Audio and video recording

-Biometric data (scans of hands, knuckles, face, or keystroke pattern)

-Government issued identification number

Furthermore, facial recognition software and biometric scanners have been proven to uphold racial bias and cannot be trusted to accurately evaluate people of colour. Body movement and eye movement is natural and often unconscious and is not an indication of cheating; for neurodivergent people, eye and body movements may be completely unavoidable. Some students need more frequent bathroom breaks then others, and some just prefer the option to stand up, stretch their legs, and look away from the screen for a bit while writing. This system is completely excessive and more invasive than any measures set-out when writing exams on campus.

Students and faculty alike, we ask you to express your concern and call on Humber to terminate the invasive use of Proctortrack during testing/examinations.
