Protect Berowra Valley Bushland started this petition to Hornsby Shire Council and

Significant damage is being caused to rare bushland in Berowra Valley by mountain bike trails. Local conservation groups are asking you to sign to support the closure of these trails by Hornsby Council.

Critically Endangered Ecological Communities, Biobanking Sites, areas of heritage as well as areas containing Threatened Species are currently under threat as Hornsby Council is considering sanctioning mountain bike trails in these areas.

A special type of Critically Endangered Ecological Community, Sydney Blue Gum Diatreme Forest, occurs nowhere else on earth and grows in the rich soils of the volcanic diatreme from Hornsby Quarry to Westleigh. The Critically Endangered Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest and endangered Duffy’s Forest are also present, and all are threatened by mountain bike trails. These plant communities form part of a Priority Management Site established under the Biodiversity Conservation Act.

Mountain bike trails belong elsewhere, not in this precious bush between Hornsby and Westleigh. Please help us save our fast-disappearing natural heritage.
