Ban All Synthetic Psychoactive Substances

The General Public started this petition to Hon John Key (Prime Minister of New Zealand)

Despite health warnings issued by numerous public health authorities and poison control centers describing the adverse health effects associated with the use of synthetic drugs they are still legal in New Zealand. Last year the Psychoactive Substances Act 2013 was introduced so that these substances could be regulated and tested thoroughly before being allowed on to the market... also to implement "licensing" which the government sells to the companies wanting to sell synthetics.

So why are these drugs still having such a negative impact on our society?

The contents and effects of synthetic cannabinoids and cathinones are unpredictable due to a constantly changing variety of chemicals used in manufacturing processes devoid of quality controls and government regulatory oversight.

The effects of synthetic cannabinoids include severe agitation and anxiety, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia (fast, racing heartbeat), elevated blood pressure, tremors and seizures, hallucinations, dilated pupils, and suicidal and other harmful thoughts and/or actions.

Similar to the adverse effects of cocaine, LSD, and methamphetamine, synthetic cathinone use is associated with increased heart rate and blood pressure, chest pain, extreme paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, and violent behavior, which causes users to harm themselves or others.

Out of the hundreds of stories I have read, I have come to one conclusion. There are no positive stories about synthetic psychoactive substances.

Does that not tell you something? Are these drugs getting regulated and thoroughly tested?
