Hold the Corporate Affairs Commission to Account—Demand Digital Transparency & Director-Fr
The Issue
My experience with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has been nothing short of traumatic. My name is Mariyah. For fifteen years I have fought—first with tears, then with lawyers—to protect my late parents’ company, Viewpoint Nigeria Ltd, from ruthless internal fraud that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) should have stopped in a single mouse-click. The photo you see is the last photo I have of me and my Brother in happier times
About 4.9 million Nigerian companies depend on CAC’s digital register.
I believe that every forged director filing endangers 20 million jobs, pensions and a multitude of families.
When the register lies, families break: mine has lost a brother, a legacy and 15 years of peace.
- CAC's public communication channels are broken
- CAC's record keeping and internal compliance is in shambles
- CAC accepted an illegal filing that installed a 19-year-old as director—without appropriate adherence to its own rules.
- Right under its nose during a court-ordered audit, CAC looked the other way when blatant misappropriation evidence was found- then took no action
- CAC are demanding tax return payments for years already paid where their own auditors possess the receipts and recorded the possession in their letterheaded audit reports yet no receipts are on record on their systems
This is not an isolated case; thousands of SMEs report forged filings every year.
A nation cannot prosper when its regulatory bodies, like the CAC, are not held accountable for their role in stifling entrepreneurship, innovation and BREAKING TRUST.
As the world becomes increasingly globalized, businesses in Nigeria cannot afford to be thwarted by outdated and inefficient bureaucratic practices.
What we demand
- Real-Time Director Verification—no filing accepted without biometric or digital-signature match.
- Public Audit Dashboard—monthly list of rejected/flagged filings.
- 90-Day Compliance Order—complete backlog of court-ordered audits or face contempt fines.
- Independent Oversight Council—made up of business, civil-society & tech experts to monitor and grade CAC performance.
- Whistle-blower Portal—guaranteed anonymity & ₦5 million reward for proven fraud tip
Our message to Government & CAC
“A company register that tolerates forgery is a loaded gun pointed at Nigeria’s economy and the next generation. Fix it now—before another business falls into jeopardy, before another family loses a lifetime of memories and peace.”
The systematic issues at the CAC significantly contribute to the perception of Nigeria as a challenging place to conduct business. This perception harms not just business and personal relationships but undermines our national image and potential for economic growth and prosperity. Every business that falters under the weight of bureaucratic ineptitude is not just a personal loss but a loss for the community, economy, and country at large.
Reform is not merely desirable, it is critical. By holding the CAC accountable, we can begin to rebuild the trust that has been lost and support the many entrepreneurs who are so vital to the growth of our economy. We need transparency, competence, and a commitment to efficiency from the CAC to remove these obstacles and foster a business environment where all can thrive.
