Hold Luke Myer, Labour MP accountable for Breaching Constituent Trust and Privacy

The Issue

We, the undersigned, are calling for immediate accountability from our local MP, Luke Myer, following a serious breach of trust involving the misuse of constituent interaction for political purposes.

Recently, a local resident raised a valid and respectful concern about the way Mr. Myer approached their property and engaged with them. Rather than responding with the professionalism expected of an elected official, Mr. Myer chose to share part of the interaction on social media, twisting the situation into a political narrative and using it to mock the constituent’s views.

Worryingly, the post included a blurred image taken from the resident’s social media profile. Despite the attempt to obscure their identity, friends and acquaintances recognised them immediately, contacting the resident to advise them of the post. This raises serious questions about how many others may also have identified them. Even more troubling, Mr. Myer publicly used the individual’s real first name, despite it not being visible on their public profile. He only removed this information after being directly asked to do so.

But perhaps the most alarming element of this incident is that Mr. Myer publicly referenced the resident’s political affiliation, despite this never being shared or stated by the individual on any of their social media accounts. This was not just an invasion of privacy, it was a clear attempt to politicise and expose a resident m for holding differing views.

To make matters worse, the post is now being shared by other Labour affiliates on social media, seemingly with approval. This raises deeply uncomfortable questions: Is this part of Labour’s wider approach to dealing with the public? Do Labour MPs feel entitled to expose and ridicule constituents who disagree with them? Is this a reflection of party culture or even informal policy? If so, it is not only inappropriate, it is dangerous for democracy.

As constituents, we now feel silenced. How can we approach our own MP if we risk being identified, mocked, or politically labelled for simply expressing a concern? This isn’t representative democracy. This is public shaming.

Luke Myer was elected to serve all residents of this constituency, regardless of political party, personal opinion, or background. His actions reveal a concerning failure to uphold that responsibility.

We therefore demand the following:

A formal public apology from Luke Myer to the individual involved.

A clear statement of commitment to protecting the privacy, safety, and political beliefs of all constituents.

A guarantee that no constituent will ever again be exposed or politicised in this way by their MP.

and further training on how he manages himself both in public and on social media.

Our community deserves respectful, impartial representation, not political point-scoring at the expense of individual residents.

If we cannot speak freely with our elected representative, without fear of being publicly exposed or targeted, then our trust in local democracy is at risk.

Sign this petition to demand accountability, protect constituent privacy, and stand up for fair and respectful representation—no matter who you vote for.
