The breeder, Kristine Hicks, claims it was a mercy killing. But a former employee says the ranch has a pattern of abuse and neglect—and that at least 27 dogs have died on the property in recent months.

Photos show injured, malnourished animals living in dirty conditions. The sheriff’s department has arrested Hicks for animal cruelty, and more investigations are underway. We believe animal welfare laws must be enforced, and breeders must be held to a higher standard of care and transparency.
