HIV AIDS Risk Awarness Among Adolescents
The Issue
Iloilo province has recorded 2,174 cases of Hiv from 1988 to March 2025, with 111new cases reported from january to march 2025. the municipalities with the highest number of cases are Oton, Pavia, Pototan, Janiuay, and Santa Barbara. the most affected age group is 25-34 years old, comprising 49% of cases. followed by 15-24 years old (31%) and 35-49 years old (17%). males account for 96% of reported cases. with 61% attributed to male- to- male sexual contact.
The Iloilo Provincial Government has intensified community awareness campaigns and improved access to HIV counseling, prevention, screening and treatment services through Rural Health Units (RHUs) and hospitals. All RHUs in the province after free and voluntary HIV counseling and screening services. additionally, three DOH-certified HIV Primary Care Clinics in Calinog , janiuay, and Concepcion towns provide antiretroviral drugs for treatment. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) station have been established in Calinog, Janiuay, Oton. and Concepcion to provide preventive medication for high- risk individuals.
To prevent this case
Implement comprehensive sex education program in schools and communities to raise awarness about HIV transmission, prevention, and treatment.
Expand access to HIV testing, counseling, and treatment services, especially in rural and underserved areas.
provide incentives and support to individuals to undergo voluntary HIV testing and counseling.
develop and implement policies that support HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment. and care, such as ensuring access to affordable antiretroviral therapy
Distribute condoms and promote safe sex practices, especially among high-risk groups.
