High-Rise Anxiety: Stop the Project Before Our Neighbourhood Suffocates
High-Rise Anxiety: Stop the Project Before Our Neighbourhood Suffocates
The issue
Urgent action required. Consent is currently pending for an 8-storey, 40 unit apartment block in Meadowbank at 21 Manapau St.
Meadowbank, Orakei and Eastern Bay residents should be very concerned about the impact this will have on the look and feel of their family-focused community.
Sewage, rubbish collection, and street parking around our area are already under huge strain. This big building will block the view of the green and redeveloped Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Pourewa Reserve from houses in the greater Meadowbank area as it's located at the northernmost point of Meadowbank. This is a high-rise invasion beyond what is reasonable.
This is where it is proposed to be built:
The houses with stars will be shaded between 100% and 50% year-round.
The extremely tall and wide structure will block the sun that falls on many properties, including both social and private homes. These homeowners have very little influence over the situation.
Under zoning rules, the building consent does not necessarily require public notification. However, we believe there are substantial grounds to challenge this, and we need your help to request that this proposal be publicly notified. This will allow the local community to have our say.
We invite you to sign this petition to request that the town planners require the developers to go through a public notification process for this very controversial development.
In the photo below, the house behind it is 2-stories tall to give perspective. This structure will be highly visible from Kupe Street in Orakei through to Remuera and the Orakei Train Station (it will be that obvious).
Tiny Site - Huge Impact!
906 m2 site with 40 apartments and 18 car parks. There is NO provision for visitor car parking. There is NO provision for the fact that the average household has 2 vehicles. Where will the other 60+ cars go? The list goes on.
We invite you to sign this petition to request that the town planners require the developers to go through a public notification process for this very controversial development. Thank you.
