Pass South Carolina Hate Crimes Bill

Pass South Carolina Hate Crimes Bill

The Issue

We call for the passage of South Carolina House Bill 3063 - Hate Crimes. Please sign the petition for a more equal and just South Carolina.

South Carolina is one of four states in the nation which does not have formal hate crime legislation. This is unacceptable. Our elected officials must pass H.3063 to demonstrate to the world South Carolina will not tolerate hate.

For too long hate has permeated the fabric of South Carolina. Just five years ago a horrific man committed a horrific act in a Charleston church. Despite clear and direct racial motives, Dylan Roof could not be charged with a hate crime by the state of South Carolina. We must demand House Bill 3063 be passed.

As South Carolinians, we must stand against injustice and make a commitment to one another to fight for a more equitable and impartial South Carolina.

The Carolinian Creed states, "I will respect the dignity of all persons." Yet, failing to recognize hate crimes in South Carolina is contrary to that creed as it devalues the struggle of prejudice protected groups face.

No matter your race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, or sexual orientation it is time to raise our voice and advocate for change in South Carolina. No longer will we live in ignorance of blatant injustice.

Please support our fight by adding your name to the petition. And use your voice by sharing this petition with friends, family, and neighbors. Together we can create a more equitable and just South Carolina.
