We need to bring attention to a pressing issue that significantly affects countless individuals and their beloved pets - the lack of affordable pet care. It is crucial that immediate action is taken to address this problem, as its consequences are seen and felt throughout our communities.

The impact of costly pet care is far-reaching and leaves many pet owners feeling helpless, hopeless, or like they should surrender their pet. When faced with veterinary bills more than a few hundred dollars, some are left with no choice but to delay or forgo necessary medical care for their pets, surrender them, or euthanize. This can lead to the unnecessary suffering and even loss of precious companions who rely on us for their health and happiness.

Financial constraints should never be a barrier preventing responsible pet owners from seeking essential medical attention for their family members. Pets bring immeasurable joy to our lives, and it is our moral duty to ensure their well-being. Affordable pet care presents an opportunity to relieve the financial burden on pet owners, allowing them to provide the care that their pets so desperately need. 

I have seen first-hand how many community members can afford low-cost care, but not the overpriced care seen at many vets nationwide. However, this is a systemic issue.  Vet practices must charge enough to pay off their student loans, buy necessary equipment, supplies, overhead, and pay wages to others they need to work in their practice.  The numbers are working against pet owners, but we realize that it is not at the fault of most Vet Practices, it has just become too expensive with the rising cost of inflation to spread the money in the same ways as before.

Additionally, the lack of affordable pet care disproportionately affects low-income, unemployed, disabled, and unhoused families and individuals who are currently facing numerous challenges. For many in this position, a pet is not only a source of companionship but also their greatest support in times of hardship. They provide comfort, emotional support, and companionship that can be invaluable to those struggling with mental health issues, isolation, or other difficulties. By tackling the issue of affordability, we can ensure that all pet owners, regardless of their financial situation, can properly care for their pets and reap the benefits of these special bonds. This will have an impact on many pet-owners mental health, as the hopelessness of their current reality is removed.

The importance of immediate action cannot be overstated. As we witness the myriad of challenges our world faces, the significance of pet companionship and the bond between humans and animals has become more evident than ever. The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the emotional support that pets bring into our lives. We must not forget that to provide a safe and loving home for our pets, affordable access to quality healthcare is essential.

To address this issue, I urge you to consider signing our petition to create more funding at a local, state, and federal level to fund the difference in care costs that a pet-owner can afford, and what a Vet Practice must charge to stay in business. We need to create change by expanding access to programs that provide veterinary services in underserved communities, and supporting financial assistance programs for veterinary bills. Only then can we eliminate the heartbreaking decisions faced by pet owners and ensure that no animal suffers unnecessarily due to financial barriers.

The lack of affordable pet care is a problem that profoundly affects both pets and their owners, often forcing them into impossible situations. It is our collective responsibility to take immediate action and provide accessible, affordable solutions that prioritize the health and well-being of our societies domesticated animals. Domesticated animals are Manmade. I implore you to champion this cause, stand up, and make a solution for this manmade problem, and for the animals who depend on us unconditionally.

Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of countless pets and their loving owners.
