Dear friends,
To date our Campaign has raised £98,653.60, with an additional £24,500 raised by myself and a handful of supporters to pay for equipment for Alex’s new Surgery.
That’s a total of £123,153,60 we have raised to date.
We felt it was important to share with our supporters the reasons behind the closure of the bank account and the decision to shut down the Facebook page for The Friends of Alex Selles Llorens.
As many of you know, Ian Credland and I began a determined campaign to raise funds for Alex to support his legal case against Medivet.
We believe few have worked more tirelessly over the past 18 months to support this cause than Ian and myself.
During this time, my wife and I developed a close friendship with Alex and his family. We felt privileged to have them in our lives and were glad to offer support during what was clearly a challenging period for them all.
We came to know Barbara, whom we found to be a devoted wife and mother.
While Alex was under considerable stress, Barbara was balancing the demands of supporting him through his legal matters while completing her final year at university to become a criminologist — all while caring for their young daughter.
These moments, spent with the family, left a lasting impression on us.
However, following recent private developments, a series of serious and concerning events unfolded.
After much reflection, we made the difficult decision to bring our campaign to a close.
Over the past 18 months, Ian and I have devoted significant time, effort, and care to this cause. We’ve worked to help a professional we believed in.
Alex was struggling to fund the setting up of his new surgery and I immediately started the ball rolling by investing in several thousands of pounds worth of equipment to get him up and running. I approached a handful of incredibly generous donors, who also contributed in the space of a week and we secured nearly £24,500 to equip Alex's new surgery.
That said, recent developments and new information have led us to re-evaluate our role.
We no longer feel it is appropriate for us to continue our involvement in this campaign, particularly when it comes to asking for further contributions from our supporters — many of whom have already given so much.
THE GROUP HAS NOW CLOSED.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who supported this journey with such generosity and goodwill.
Regrettably, the closing weeks brought some upsetting challenges, including inappropriate messages directed toward us and other members, which further confirmed that the time had come to step away.
The campaign bank account has now been closed, with all remaining funds being transferred to Alex’s legal team at Mayo Wynne Baxter.
As you know, the bank account was set up by myself, Ian Credland, and Alex’s wife Barbara.
For complete transparency, Barbara had the sole authorization to raise a payment request for payment of invoices to Mayo Wynne Baxter, Alex’s Legal Team.
This then had to be authorized by either Ian or myself.
The only outgoing payments from this account were to Mayo Wynne Baxter and anyone who has any doubt as to the transparency of this account should please direct their concerns to them.
Without Barbara, the Partnership was dissolved and the Bank Account closed.
Our facebook group’s Admins and Fundraisers have been fully briefed on the reasoning behind our decision and the concerns raised in recent weeks.
Should you have any questions, we encourage you to contact them directly.
We are aware that differing accounts of these events may be shared.
While we respectfully disagree with some of what is being communicated, we recognise that others may hold different perspectives.
We remain deeply grateful for the compassion and support shown by all those involved.
Please respect our decision
Ian, myself and our families have not only lost our vet, but also a friend.
Warmest regards,
Mike and Ian
