The Issue

The Live and Let Live pub has been the heart of our community in the Devon village of Landscove for generations – since 1850, in fact. This beloved pub is one of the last shared spaces where we, the residents, gather to share stories, celebrate milestones, and support each other in times of need. The threat of selling this establishment for housing development endangers our village’s spirit and cohesion.

Pubs like the Live and Let Live are an integral part of the British countryside, providing not just a place for a drink but a hub for social activity, tradition, and connection. According to the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), nearly 30 pubs close every week in the UK, depriving communities of vital communal spaces. We cannot let our pub become just another statistic.

Transforming the Live and Let Live into housing would not only erase a crucial part of our village’s history but also rob future generations of the chance to experience the unique charm and camaraderie our pub offers. Local businesses anchored around community hubs like ours need protection and support, not the threat of closure.

We are taking urgent steps to have the Live and Let Live registered as an Asset of Community Value, giving the community a chance to protect it. Conversion of the pub to housing would be irreversible, resulting in the loss of one of the last shared spaces in the village for our community to gather. Beyond this significant social impact, pub closures are widely recognised as having a negative impact on local house prices.

We must act now.

Please help us safeguard the Live and Let Live, ensuring it remains a pub for years to come. Sign this petition to show your support for maintaining the cultural fabric of Landscove and protecting this essential community resource.
