In 2024, Steward Healthcare, the parent company of Carney Hospital, which was located in Dorchester, Massachusetts, one of Boston's historically low-income communities, filed for bankruptcy. This led to the permanent closure of Carney Hospital, leaving many people in these communities without access to healthcare and forcing others to travel long distances for medical care. Many rural hospitals are at risk of closure as well due to the One Big Beautiful Bill. This petition proposes that hospitals are transparent and that the oversight of these organizations of the allocations of the funds will ensure health care equity.
